Absolutely brilliant article by Bobby regarding the legend that is Sir John.

I 100% agree that we should look to move heaven and earth to sign John on a fully deserved long term contract, and that once this is done we will have no problem attracting player such is John’s allure at this level of the game!

    kindest regards

Just read it myself and it’s a bloody good read, and something I most definitely agree with. Keep up the good work Rob.

If anyone deserves a decent deal it is John Askey, and, hopefully, now that he has actually ‘won something’, that will give him the leverage he needs.

IMHO he is truly deserving of the ‘legendary’ accolade. His unswerving loyalty to our club over decades would make Greyfriars Bobby seem perfidious, and to know he will be at the helm for the foreseeable future would be a massive boost as we dip our toes into the L2 waters again next season.

Legendary brilliant and loyal player. Legendary brilliant and loyal manager. 34 years – one club.

By the end of this year he ought to be in line for an MBE, and a serious contender in two of the main awards on BBC Sports Personality of the Year. An appropriately improved new contract is a total no-brainer.

Great guy – legendary. Up there with Sammy Mc now – in fact may even be above when you consider he’s done it for us both on and off the pitch

Sammy’s titles won while Macc boss are probably unbeatable. He won every non-league competition we entered as a club – some of them multiple times:

    FA Trophy
    Conference
    Drinkwise Cup
    Staffs Senior Cup
    Cheshire Senior Cup
    Conference Charity Shield

plus of course promotion in the first year of the Football League.

However, it could be argued that the context of the circumstances of SJA’s league title as a manager surpasses all of the above!

But then factor in that John won all the above (Trophy excepted) as a player under Sammy, played for us for over 20 years, and been a loyal servant for getting on 35 years, then he’s out on his own, and no-one will surpass that.
