Player Profiles: Nathan Cameron

Nathan Benjamin Cameron was born in the city of Birmingham on 21st November 1991.

Cameron began his career in football at Coventry City and after his development in the academy at the West Midlands club, signed his first professional contract with the Sky Blues. Nathan was captain of the academy side, both at under 16 and under 18 level.

The defender made his Coventry City debut on the 12th August 2009 where he played a 15 minute spell during a 1-0 defeat against Hartlepool United. A loan spell with Nuneaton Town followed, where he made thirteen appearances for the Warwickshire club, scoring once, as The Boro defeated Stourbridge 4-0 on the 14th August 2010. Cameron returned to the Richoh Arena club, signing a one year contract and made his first Football League start at the beginning of the 2010/2011 season, as Coventry City beat Portsmouth 2-0.

At the end of the 2011/2012 season, Nathan suffered a knee injury as the Sky Blues were relegated from the Championship that season and this injury was to limit his chances the following season, and was an unused substitute for a number of games. As a result of this, Nathan was loaned out to League Two side Northampton Town until the end of the season on the 26th March 2013 and most notably made appearances in both legs of their play-off semi-final win against Cheltenham Town, however he sadly tasted defeat in the play-off final, as The Bantams of Bradford City were victorious.

On the 28th June 2013, Cameron signed a two year deal with The Shakers of Bury and was in a central midfield role for his debut, as his new side lost 2-0 to Chesterfield. On 31st August 2013, the Birmingham born defender scored his first goal for the Greater Manchester club, in a 4-1 win over Cheltenham Town and would go on to hit the back of the net against Torquay United, Exeter City and York City.

Following this, first team appearances became an issue for Cameron, however during the 2014/2015 season, Nathan was the ever present player for the Gigg Lane club, and helped the club achieve promotion from League Two, as well as winning the Bury Times player of the season award.

Cameron was awarded with the Bury captaincy at the start of the 2015/2016 campaign and wore the armband for a number of matches.

Unfortunately injuries continued to play a part over the coming years for the defender and at the end of the 2017/2018 season, Nathan was released by Bury.

Cameron trialled with Mansfield Town in the 2018 close season, however he was injured in a friendly match with Championship club Derby County.

On 16th November 2018, Nathan Cameron signed for League Two side Macclesfield Town on a two month deal and the following day saw the defender make his Silkmen debut away to Milton Keynes Dons, where the Moss Rose club lost 2-0 to the Buckinghamshire side.
