Ten things about Tranmere!

  1. Okay, so we equalled Derby County in going 36 consecutive games in the league without a win, but last night was our best performance of the season by a country mile where you could see evidence of a team trying to play football with some sort of a game plan. Let’s face it we all expected to lose heavily away from home against one of the form sides in the division, but so improved was our performance that the minimum we deserved was a draw!
  2. When your luck is out it’s out as so often happens with struggling teams. Michael Rose (who had his best game in a Macc shirt for me) was desperately unlucky to see his free-kick cannon off the inside of the post, roll along the line and end up safe. Of course they had clearer cut chances than us, but in comparison to other games, where it has felt like the Alamo; we were fairly comfortable!
  3. Has the Peter Vincenti so revered by the Rochdale faithful being replaced by his doppelganger who plays (not very well) for his local pub league side? The lad looks disinterested; is weak in tackles and is hardly the epitome of the attacking midfielder we were led to expect. For yours truly he was the only player who yours truly was genuinely disappointed in last night!
  4. Keith Lowe (yours truly’s man of the match) was imperious tonight and I thought Jamie Grimes had a pretty decent game too. Jared was excellent once again. and I thought that Fitz had a much better game than in recent weeks. Malachi Napa definitely has promise, and of course it is our midfield where we look so weak. I can’t wait to see the return of our injured midfield warriors (it will be like four new signings) and we MUST strengthen in the next transfer window!
  5. When we have a hardcore of 1,400, and they can attract 6,500 home fans how the f%&k did we win the National League by ten points? It just goes to show what an amazing job that ‘Sir’ John did last season, and how criminal it was not to move heaven and earth to secure him to a long term deal! I also believe he was at the game last night. LEGEND!!
  6. The support tonight throughout the game was ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS. How many teams that have lost nine of thirteen league games would see their supporters cheering their team’s efforts at the end and chanting their support of their heroes?  F*#cking superb!
  7. Danny Whitaker is the only candidate who can provide the ‘against all odds’ mentality needed to preserve our league status.  As with ‘Sir’ John, he holds legendary status; is adored by the Silkmen faithful and wants to play football in the way that it should be played. Danny is a local lad with a long association with our beloved blues, and so must be given the opportunity to show what he can do NOW rather than bring in someone who has no concept of what it is like to continually battle against adversity as one of the smallest clubs with the poorest budget in the English Football League!
  8. It was a privilege to meet up with Rob Heys (ex general manager of MTFC) and his lovely wife Denise who is a Birkenhead lass, and (understandably) a Tranmere fan before the game. They are such lovely people and IMHO it was a travesty that Rob was not kept on at the club where his friendly and outgoing demeanour was so refreshing to behold. Both Rob & Denise want nothing more than to see Macc stay up, and PB, PBJ, and Deano miss them so much. We cannot thank them enough for their extraordinary support for ‘Silky Sunday’s’; the disco held at the club for local disabled people that they regularly travelled from the Wirral to support alongside Morgan and Ella on Sunday evenings! It was also great to see Nick Bianchi and Andy Scott in the pub before the game tonight. These guys are such nice people and fantastic LOCAL BUSINESSMEN WHO REALLY CARE ABOUT OUR BELOVED BLUES.  If you ever see them round town, let them know how much you respect what they have done for OUR club thus far, and encourage them to continue to fight for what we Silkmen fans know is right!
  9. Carlisle and Northampton next Saturday and a week on Tuesday are absolutely massive games for us. The club MUST do some massive marketing around the town; bombard the presss and radio airwaves, and come up with some initiatives to encourage big and vociferous home attendances. Some ideas that come to mind include bring an adult friend for a fiver, under 18’s for a quid etc. and I am sure that there are many more.
  10. We always knew that this would be a difficult season, and so we as fans must continue to support the players and management in the same way as we did last night! Messrs Alkadhi, Blower & Green must share this responsibility, and this means a vastly improved channel of communication from them, and provision of the necessary resources that gives us a chance of remaining within the elite of 92! I AM SILKMEN TILL I DIE!
