A View From The West: Tranmere Rovers (Away)

Ryan Cawley provides The Star Lane End with his thoughts following Friday night’s 1-0 defeat at Tranmere Rovers:

Taylor – 8.5 – Superb performance from the Silkmen’s number 1. Kept Norwood out from a one on one. Needs to work on this kicking but to be dropped (again) after that would be criminal irrelevant of whatever the O’Hara deal is.

Hodgkiss – 7.5 – Kept going, won his battles although goal came down his side but dubious to whether the ball went out for a throw.

Lowe – 9 – MOM – Towering performance yet again from big KEITH. How one of our best players hadn’t been in the starting 11 until recently was truly mind boggling!

Grimes – 7.5 – Played very well barring one poor clearance. Keep it up Frank!

Fitz – 7 – Typical ‘Fitz’ performance.

Rose – 8 – One of, if not his best game in a Macc shirt. By far our best CM (on the night), won tackles, spread the ball and was tremendously unlucky with his free-kick hitting the post.

Praised by many Silkmen fans last night, with some suggesting that it was the midfielder’s best performance in a Macc shirt! (Photograph courtesy of Chelsie Wilson).

Maycock – 6 – Poor man’s Scott Burgess, not good enough.

Vincenti – 1 – “If Peter Vincenti can play for the Silkmen so can I.” Weak in the tackle, turns his back and gave the ball away. If lanky streak is a footballer, I’m a magician!

Marsh – 7.5 – Worked hard and won lots of free kicks, kept going.

Napa – 7 – Looked a threat again but no end product.

Bliss – 7.5 – Won all the headers but tired last 15. We struggled to get the right service to him.

Wilson – N/A – Didn’t get in the game.

Stephens – N/A – Looked lively.

Whit – 8 – Could only pick the 11 that was available but we looked more solid and tried to play out from the back. Centre midfield is a massive problem and the sooner we get Danny, Evans, Durrell & Lloyd back the better! It’s truly ridiculous not one of the summer signings has strengthened the squad. Yates & Blower are accountable for some horrendous signings and terrible decisions over the summer that have left us in this mess. Signing players from 2 leagues below is daft and with the budget at least three times what we had in the National League, to have a worse squad is ridiculous. The choice of next manager could be MASSIVE in the club’s history, we need to get it right and back him in January. For me we should go for league experience and a local (at least based) manager. Someone who has good contacts in the North West to get good loan deals. The sooner we stop signing elite management / players from Coventry, do some proper scouting and bring passionate players that want to work hard for the club, the better!

Horny Howarth – Straight over to the fans at the end of the game. Truly cares and the sooner we get our first win the better!
