SLE Fantasy League – Week 1

Week 1 and the start of the Premier League 18/19 season saw the Silkmen face Grimsby at home as we returned to the Moss Rose as a Football League team for the first time in 6 years.

Although the result and performance wasn’t quite what we had grown a custom to throughout last season, it’s still very early days and Saturday’s game highlighted to me that this management and playing team will need time to gel – something that I am sure we all continue to get behind and support!

The first game of the Premier League marked the beginning of the SLE Fantasy League. Firstly, I’d just like to thank all of you for signing up and getting involved. There is 119 players which is a great response and I’m sure there’ll be plenty of bragging rights amongst some of you as the season develops.

Talking about bragging rights, Saturday evening, I personally was sitting top of the table with my ‘Merseyside Macc’ team and my younger brother who is also in the league with Wanyama in Pyjamas was rock bottom – I don’t think in all the years I’ve played fantasy football I’ve ever been top once!

However, after Liverpool demolished West Ham on Sunday and Arsenal were beaten by Manchester City, the table changed once more and our current leader after week 1 is Matthew Brown’s ‘Into the Mixer’ who sit top with a whopping 97 points! The highest points achieved in the UK was 137 points, so Matt has had a cracking start to the season – well done mate!

Down the other end of the table, not such a great start to proceedings from ‘Congy Wongy FC’, ‘Ben Hardy FC’ or ‘Wanyamas in Pyjamas’ who are currently sitting in the bottom 3 propping up the table.

Still a very long way to go and anything can happen – remember guys, you can make 1 free transfer now and any additional transfers will cost you points from your current score. With Gameweek 2 starting on Friday, make sure you do this before 5p.m. on Friday 17th August to ensure they count before the cut off.

In the meantime, come on you SILKMEN against Bradford City tonight!
