A View From The West: Grimsby Town (H)

Ryan Cawley is back with his ratings, after a disappointing first home game of the season against Grimsby Town –

Starting XI

Taylor – 6.5 – Great save first half but shouldn’t be getting beaten near post for the second goal.

Hodgkiss – 5.5 – Poor, kept giving the ball away and crossing terrible. A theme of the day.

Kelleher – 7 – Looked solid, tried to play out from the back but midfield didn’t show enough so forced into going long.

Frank Grimes – 6 – Poor for the second goal but did ok other than that. Homer Simpson will not be inviting him round for tea.

Fitz – 7 – Defended well, got forward and put in a couple of good balls in the box.

Marsh – 6 – Played completely out of position (LW) first half, struggled to track back and couldn’t hold it up. Looked better in the 4-4-2 second half. Not one of his better games for the club.

Whitaker – 8 (MOM) – Has more energy, skill, control than anyone else in the team. Only man in midfield who performed well.

Maycock – 6.5 – Passing ok, did not create much going forward and not a tackler.

Rose – 5 – Did ok on the ball but not got the legs for this league at his age. Looked better in DM first half but second half played out of position LW, crossing was poor and struggled to keep up with the opposition.

Arthur – 5.5 – Looked a threat but no end product, too many crosses were off the mark.

Smith – 7.5 – Held the ball up well and looked a threat. Just needs the service.

Substitutes

Wilson – 7 – Looked a threat and had a couple of half chances.

Ayia Napa – 6.5 – After raving all summer looked a live wire but very raw.

Blissett – 6 – Only given 5 minutes to make a difference, should have came on earlier.

Management

Yates – 5.5 – We lacked width and frustrating that we have a perfectly good left sided player who can cross and has energy (Lloyd) sat on the bench. We cannot play both Rose and Whitaker in the same side. Poor team selection. In this league we need to be playing players in their actual positions. 1st half we were completely outclassed, much better second half and were unlucky not to equalise. Final third needs much work, we have good strikers that just need the service. Midfield needs sorting out / changes in personnel.

Bills Ball Bags – After a summer of changes Bill and BJ have left the club so feet up time for them. Bill enjoyed the view from his new position in the Moss Lane Stand and BJ is still getting over his honeymoon. I would like to take this opportunity to thank them both on the fans behalf for their hard work over the years and for helping us obtain promotion. A new section ‘Horny Howarth’ will accompany next week’s report.
