Rhys Taylor was born in Port Talbot, Wales on 7th April 1990.
Taylor started his footballing career playing mainly for the Chelsea Reserves and the Youth Team and in November 2009, he joined Queens Park Rangers for a two month spell. During the 2009/2010 season, Rhys would make eight appearances for Chelsea’s reserve team as their first choice goalkeeper.
In June 2010, Taylor joined League 2 side Crewe Alexandra on loan, which eventually became a season-long loan and saw the keeper becoming a regular name in the starting eleven.
In January 2012, Rhys would join Rotherham United on a one month loan deal which was extended until the end of the season and after his release from Chelsea in June 2012, spells at Southend United and Preston North End would follow.
Following an injury to first-choice goalkeeper Lance Cronin, Taylor would make the switch to The Silkmen in February 2013 and his debut saw Macclesfield Town win 4-0 away at Ebbsfleet United. Rhys became a regular between the sticks at the Moss Rose Club and would make 109 appearances for the first team during a two year stay, before heading for pastures new at Newport County in May 2015.
Later that year saw the shot stopper joining Wrexham on loan and he remained at The Racecourse Ground until the end of The Dragon’s 2015/2016 season. Taylor returned to Newport County and he made his league debut in their final match of the season against A.F.C. Wimbledon.
In May 2016, he was released by the Rodney Parade club and in August that same year would see him switching to AFC Fylde, who were then competing in the Vanarama National League North.
In total, Rhys would make 44 appearances for The Coasters and in January 2018, he signed for Tranmere Rovers and would go on to make six first team appearances for the club.
In July 2018, Taylor would join the newly promoted Silkmen for his second spell at the club, signing a one year contract.
