Rob Heys: A Personal Reflection

I first had the great pleasure of meeting with Rob when he arrived in the role of General Manager at Macclesfield Town Football Club in the summer of 2016. I was instantly impressed with Rob’s very pleasant and approachable demeanor, and his ‘can do’ attitude where nothing seemed to much trouble. Whenever I chatted to Rob, he always had a huge smile on his face and his positivity always seemed to be a very infectious influence on those with whom he came into contact. This could be seen so clearly with the involvement of Rob and his wonderful family including Denise, Lottie, Morgan and Ella who regularly supported the weekly Silky Sundays discos for disabled people by travelling all the way from Birkenhead in order to do this and putting their proverbial heart and soul into the events which I know was so much appreciated by those who attended.

In the two years that Rob was with us at the club he enjoyed unprecedented success that included reaching the final of the FA Trophy in his first season with us and then last season when we reached the holy grail of a return to the English Football League. Rob utilised the hashtag ‘believe’ as a catalyst towards our journey to Wembley and that belief carried on into our promotion winning season, and I can also clearly remember the heartfelt words that Rob uttered on the volunteers evening last March where he spoke of how proud he had been to be part of the Silkmen ‘family. Upon reading the news that Rob would be moving to pastures new, I contacted him to thank him for all of his contributions to Macclesfield Town FC over the past several years and wish him all the very best for the future. Rob responded with these words ‘It was an absolute pleasure, loved it all and had a brilliant two years. Only regret is that I didn’t get to say goodbye to everyone properly. Will keep in touch and will always have a place in my heart for the Silkmen.’

Rob, you are an absolute gentleman and a thoroughly nice bloke. I know that I speak for all Silkmen who had the pleasure of meeting you in wishing you and your lovely family every happiness in whatever you endeavour to do in the future and please do keep in touch with us.
