Former Macclesfield Town Manager Gil Prescott has spoken about his joy at yesterday’s news that John Askey is to be made an Honorary Freeman of Macclesfield.
Gil was the Assistant Manager back in 1997 when Sammy McIlroy’s side last secured promotion to the Football League and took the hot-seat in his own right in 2001 following the departure of Peter Davenport – something which he described as being “the proudest moment of my life”.
Sir John was drafted straight back into the team for Gil’s first game at Scunthorpe and unsurprisingly, that was a decision which the new Manager would never regret.
Gil spoke about the banter which his sides used to experience and also made reference to the respect that John commands amongst all the players that he works with by stating “when John says something, everyone listens to him”
Here is what Gil had to say in full –
As always, we are very grateful for Gil’s time and continued support for this site.
