In light of today’s news that Danny Whitehead has completed his move to Salford City, we thought that it would be a good idea to look back at his role in our glorious promotion winning season.
When Sir John brought Danny Whitehead back to the Moss Rose last September, he knew that the 23 year old would play an integral part in our increasingly realistic chances of promotion glory.
Danny proved to be a relentless figure in the heart of our midfield, with tenacity in abundance.
With Danny orchestrating the midfield, there is no such thing as a lost cause and he proved that time and time again.
Danny epitomised everything that this glorious squad stood for – commitment, defiance and a never say die attitude which is seldom seen at any level of the game.
As well as this, Danny also scored some crucial goals – the importance of which can never be overestimated.
Strikes which immediately come to mind are the last gasp finish at Woking which said so much about his resolve to fight until the bitter end and the majestic finish against Chester two days later to secure a maximum six points over the Easter period.
As far as midfielders go, Danny is unquestionably one of the best in the National League and without his efforts, we would not be celebrating this miraculous title today.
Here are some images paying tribute to Danny, as we wish him all the very best at his new club –
