Champions: Elliott Durrell

We continue our tribute to the heroes who brought the National League title to the Moss Rose by featuring a real fans favourite.

A man who over the course of the last nine months has captivated us all and has unquestionably exemplified everything which champions are made of.

We are of course referring to our Wizard on the Wing – Elliott Durrell.

Elliott joined the club from Chester last summer and even within the subsequent interview announcing his arrival, there was no doubt why he had signed for Sir John’s side.

From day one Elliott oozed belief and determination – he set his sights as high as possible and never detracted from them.

Throughout the season Elliott has mesmerised us all with his electric pace and the clear will to win which is seldom seen at any level of the game.

As well as his tenacious and awe-inspiring play down the right wing, Elliott also managed to weigh in with eight league goals this season – many of them at critical times.

Scintillating strikes against Aldershot, Barrow, Woking and Maidstone will all be remembered for years to come by the Silkmen faithful – yet for me, two matches summed up Elliott’s season.

The first came back in October where our Wizard on the Wing gave Danny Whitaker the perfect gift to mark his 400th appearance for the club – as his late strike sealed a 2 – 1 victory and sent Sir John’s side to the top of the National League in the process.

The second match was of course when we stunned Tranmere Rovers at Prenton Park back in February.

On the night, Elliott was simply unplayable and this was highlighted when he received a standing ovation from both sets of fans as he made his way off the field after scoring two scintillating goals.

Elliott was named National League Player of the Month for February and was last week quite rightly part of the League’s Team of the Year.

As well as all this, Elliott always finds time to pose for photos and chat with the fans and we are immensely proud to be his home shirt sponsor
