Macclesfield Town Under 21s suffered a rare defeat yesterday, as Jake Eastham broke their hearts by tapping in an 89th minute winner.
In a fiercely contested local derby, Macc had ‘keeper Mike Smith to thank for a string of superb saves – the first of which came after just three minutes when he expertly denied Ryan Brookes.
Five minutes later Josh Edden’s visionary lob could only be parried by Smith, yet he then produced a world class save to thwart Conor Beaden as he fired towards goal from six yards out.
The deadlock was broken after ten minutes however, as Beaden picked the all up on the right hand side of the area before ferociously firing across the face of goal and into the far corner.
This undoubtedly catalysed the visitors into attacking their opponents with renewed vigour and parity was restored on 23 minutes, when Sam Box arched a spectacular header across goal as he latched onto a cross from the left.
Debutant Enoch Likoi-Elumba was desperately unfortunate to see his twenty yard effort curl just the wrong side of the far post on 50 mins, yet Macc were grateful to their ‘keeper once again six minutes later as Smith brilliantly denied Aidan Glover at the near post.
Dion Kemp, Sam Jordan and Dan Dolling all had chances to give the visitors the lead, yet they would come to rue them as Jake Eastham seized on a loose ball in the box to tap home the winner with seconds remaining.
Jim Hall will be hoping for better luck next Sunday, as Tytherington make the journey over to Holmes Chapel Leisure Centre for the return fixture which kicks off at 11am.
