Volunteers Defied The Odds To Make Sure Game Went Ahead

Having already suffered two consecutive postponements, the last thing that Sir John’s side needed was a third as they faced Barrow yesterday.

However when Head Groundsman Gary Lewis arrived at the Moss Rose yesterday, the pitch was unquestionably waterlogged in parts – as the below picture highlights.

It was at this point that Gary called on his merry band of helpers to battle against the odds to try and get the game on.

Steve Caulcott together with Andrew Galloway and Jim Goodwin tackled the issue with their usual good humour – determined to make sure the game was on.

Despite the fact that the task was arduous at best, Gary and his volunteers reigned victorious around noon when the Referee gave the match the thumbs up.

Without their efforts, there would have been no game yesterday and thus we would now be sat in second place, a point behind Sutton.

We would like to extend our thanks to Gary, Steve, Andrew and Jim, not just for yesterday but for the tireless work they do on the pitch throughout the week.
