Flashback to April 1989: Macclesfield Town 1 v 3 Sutton United

On April Fools Day 1989, Macc warmed up for their FA Trophy semi-final with Dartford by welcoming Sutton United to the Moss Rose.

Yet there was to be no laughter on the terraces that day as Peter Wragg’s Silkmen were well beaten by a Sutton side who were still buoyed by their epic FA Cup victory against Coventry City.

A crowd of 1308 saw The Silkmen go down by three goals to one with Stevie Burr on the scoresheet for the home side.

This action shot from the match has been kindly lent to me by Keith Wilson – can you name the boys in blue present on it?

I am pretty sure that I have got two but struggling on the other – so to make life a bit easier for you I have put the Macc lineup from that day below.
