All SLE Forum Users: Please Read This

The SLE Forum is almost a month old, and when I agreed to set one top on here, I did so with bated breath as I did not want it to descend in to a place which was characterised by insults, personal abuse and spam.

With the “trial period” coming to an end, I have to weigh up whether or not it is worth keeping it on the site, due to the fact that if the period elapses then I am tied in to it for the next eleven months.

These are my thoughts –

The forum is used by people who converse in a positive manner, and there has only been one incident of personal abuse where the offending user was subsequently banned.

It is a great way to conduct the attendance competitions and the Man of the Match awards

ME - Macc Fans

We want you to be happy with YOUR forum (Pic courtesy of Macc Express).

The functionality of it is brilliant in that you can post emojis, gifs, videos, audio files etc as well as personalising your own account.

The way I see it is that there is only one flaw – and that surrounds logging in.

You are asked to answer a simple sum (or a complex one if you are Andy Worth), and more often than not asked to resubmit your details.

Let me address that now –

Firstly, there is an easy way around this, and that is when you sign in, select the remember me option underneath your logins. That way you should not have to enter your username and password ever again.

You will be asked 1 or 2 simple sums – but this is a security feature which safeguards against spam accounts.

It literally takes less than 5 seconds to login when you have previously selected “Remember me”.

Having said that, I am working hard to try and get rid of this – the problem being that the forum is actually a third party plugin, and therefore not as straight forward to resolve as anything to do with the main site is.

I will put my hands up and say that I need to spend more time developing the forum so that it realises it’s full potential – and I will be doing that if this is what people want me to do.

So, the question is – do we keep it or not?

I have set a thread up on the Forum for you to give me your thoughts – I would vote YES but having said that, it is a bit pointless if I am on my own 🙂

Look forward to hearing from you.
