SLE caught up with Wrexham fan Ben Dobson this week to get the lowdown on how tomorrow’s opponents are shaping up ahead of the new season.
Here is what Ben had to say –
So far, I think that Wrexham have one of the best defences in the league, however I do think that we are a bit short in the centre-back position.
Our midfield is looking really good but I also think that we are in need of another striker as we struggled to take our chances in pre-season which was disappointing.
I then went on to ask Ben why he thought that a club such as Wrexham had been in the National League so long without returning to the Football League –
Well there have been quite a few seasons when we have been hampered by selling our best players in January and it also doesn’t help when you have so many Managers over the last five years.
Also, sometimes it is just down to luck – we have been in the playoffs a few times and even missed out on promotion despite accumulating 98 points!
Over the summer, Wrexham have signed numerous ex-Silkmen players and I asked Ben which of these have stood out during pre-season –
I have liked the look of both Jack Mackreth and Chris Holroyd. To be honest, I have not seen enough of Scott Boden but these two have impressed me a lot.
And his hopes for this season?
Obviously clubs the size of Wrexham will always be aiming for promotion, but if we don’t achieve that this year then definitely next year.
All I am hoping for is a good FA Cup run and a high table finish.
And finally, I ask Ben about his memories of facing The Silkmen –
I remember one year when we played Macc at the Racecourse Ground where we were 3 – 0 down and the atmosphere went mental as we pulled two goals back but just couldn’t get the equaliser – it was a great match!
We would like to thank Ben for his time, and wish him all the best for the new season – with the exception of the two fixtures against us that is!
