Blackpool Football Club will take no fee from Saturday’s final pre-season friendly at the Moss Rose, it has been revealed.
A club source told me that no payment will be paid to the Tangerines for the match – which is the usual protocol for friendly matches.
Negotiations between the club and the newly promoted League One outfit ended with Blackpool accepting that they would fulfil the fixture with no charge.
Over recent years Blackpool supporters have vigorously protested against their owners – so much so that many now stay away from Bloomfield Road.
This was exemplified at last season’s League Two Play-Off Final against Exeter City, where hoards of empty seats could be seen from within the Blackpool allocation.
Their battle with the Oyston’s is well documented and incredibly sad, considering that the club remain one of the most historic and well respected in the country.
I am sure all Silkmen fans would join me in extending the hand of friendship to our visitors on Saturday, and hope that as many of them as possible will make the short journey down for the match as we all get ready for the new season.
